VECTRA MFL Tool
When we set out to develop a high-resolution Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) tool for the detection of metal loss, our goal was to help our customers reduce their hidden inspection costs and provide the most accurate integrity information available. We achieved this goal by incorporating the latest advances in gas bypass with active speed control, tri-axial sensor technology, inertial navigation and neural network-based data analysis software. VECTRA, the world’s most advanced MFL tool, provides you with numerous value-added benefits.

Gas Bypass With Active Speed Control

An integrated gas bypass system with active speed control allows all large diameter VECTRA tools to inspect a pipeline at optimum speed for high-resolution data collection while the pipeline maintains full product throughput rates. There is no lost gas revenue with VECTRA – you can maintain gas deliveries with uninterrupted service. The VECTRA tool has been successfully run in pipelines with gas velocities in excess of 12 m/s (27 mph), while maintaining a steady inspection speed of 3m/s (6.7 mph). A fully integrated and independent bypass override system ensures that the tool is always received safely and with a complete set of survey data.

Tri-Axial Sensor Technology

The VECTRA tool has a unique tri-axial sensor head configuration: circumferential, axial and radial. The addition of circumferential sensors is key to the accurate detection and characterization of metal loss, providing high-resolution length, width and depth information for internal and external metal loss defects. VECTRA’s sensor configuration facilitates the detection and accurate sizing of long Narrow Axial Corrosion (NAC) features.

Inertial Pipeline Mapping

A state-of-the-art inertial navigation system is an integral part of our VECTRA tool design, not an add-on feature, providing the most accurate inertial information possible. Inertial mapping is used in combination with GPS reference points to accurately locate defects in the field, resulting in cost-effective dig programs. VECTRA tool data can be incorporated into any GIS software platform.

GEMINIView: MFL Inspection Software

When it comes to data reporting, we understand that you have unique needs: GEMINIView meets those needs. Our GEMINIView software allows you to display and analyze internal and external metal loss data collected from the VECTRA survey. Upon completion of a project, we provide you with survey data along with our Microsoft Windowscompatible software. Data reports are fully customizable to meet your specific needs. GEMINIView provides:
  • Accurate characterization of metal loss features
  • Anomaly and feature co-ordinates in U.T.M. for precise field location using GPS
  • Three-dimensional view of the pipeline, including feature location and characteristics
  • Defect topology that lets you see how the corrosion will appear on the pipe
  • Comparison of defect severity to damage assessment criteria, such as B31G and RSTRENG
  • The ability to compare data from subsequent inspections for corrosion growth modelling and maintenance scheduling
  • Statistical summaries of defect density, location and orientation
  • Simultaneous synchronized view of GEOPIG and VECTRA MFL tool survey data
Pipeline Inspection Database

The information contained in our survey report will become a critical tool in monitoring and maintaining the integrity of your pipeline system. We know that this information will be used by numerous people, and can form the basis of many different studies or assessment and analysis activities. In response to this need, BJ provides a unique Pipeline Inspection Database that allows instant access to statistical analysis of the survey data.

The Pipeline Inspection Database is specifically designed to meet your needs. Any of our key reporting formats can be included, such as dig sheets, metal loss summaries, RPR plots, pipeline mapping information and even 3rd party data. Data can easily be sorted with the smart query function, and exported in formats compatible with other databases and GIS software.
