PROFILE Caliper Tool

The PROFILE tool was originally conceived and engineered to provide the industry with a simple and robust, single-body tool solution for post-construction and sub-sea projects. With the PROFILE tool, we offer our customers a cost-effective caliper/proving run prior to a VECTRA™ MFL tool inspection, or a post-construction survey for acceptance of a pipeline segment. The PROFILE tool’s rugged technology is equally valuable onshore or offshore for the identification of geometrical anomalies which could affect the integrity of the pipeline. Where offshore projects are concerned, the PROFILE tool’s LaunchStart™ feature allows for the tool to be started once the tool leaves the launch trap, a particularly valuable functionality where inspections involving an extended period of time from tool load to launch are involved.

The PROFILE tool provides a cost-effective method of identifying pipeline deformation as required by pipeline operators and regulatory bodies. The specifications of the high-resolution, multi-channel PROFILE tool meet or exceed global industry standards. The PROFILE tool identifies geometric anomalies with accurate location and clock position information. A PROFILE tool survey is ideal for high-resolution reporting of:

As with all BJ tools, the PROFILE tool is operated by qualified personnel with a service attitude. We appreciate that every project has to be completed safely, efficiently and within specification. Our field personnel are fully trained, in accordance with industry requirements, in the operation and maintenance of the PROFILE tool.

On completion of a PROFILE tool inspection, a field report will identify anomalies that require immediate attention. Where the PROFILE tool is run prior to the VECTRA tool, the PROFILE tool field report will confirm the ability of the VECTRA tool to successfully navigate the pipeline. Additionally, a detailed final report, tailored to the customer’s requirements, will provide a comprehensive overview of the pipeline. BJ’s proprietary data analysis and viewing software, GEMINIView™, is included with the final report.

BJ’s GEMINIView analysis and viewing software allows the customer to view results of the inspection survey in 3-dimensional space in order to obtain a true perspective of a given anomaly, and its relationship to other pipeline anomalies or features. GEMINIView aligns PROFILE and VECTRA tool data for easy identification of interacting anomalies, such as dents with corrosion.

Where inspection specifications require a high-resolution caliper tool equipped with an onboard inertial measurement unit (IMU), then BJ’s GEOPIG tool is the solution. The GEOPIG tool, engineered with an integrated IMU, provides x,y,z coordinates for all reported anomalies, plan and profile information, strain measurements in dents, and pipeline bending strain information for determination of pipeline movement.
