GEOPIG: Pipeline Inertial Geometry Inspection

When people think of intelligent pigging, they often think of corrosion detection, but structural integrity is also influenced by factors such as high pipeline strain and geometric anomalies, which can accelerate defect growth. The world-renowned GEOPIG caliper tool provides high-resolution caliper data and inertial pipeline mapping information, allowing you to accurately assess the effects of pipeline bending strain and geometric anomalies in your pipeline system. The information generated from a GEOPIG survey facilitates an engineering critical assessment so that you can ensure pipeline safety and prevent unnecessary repairs.

Inertial Pipeline Mapping

A state-of-the-art inertial navigation system is an integral part of our GEOPIG tool design, not an add-on feature. This system provides you with the most accurate inertial information possible. This system provides continuous measurement of pipe centreline co-ordinates, bend radius, and strain due to bending. Information derived from our inertial pipeline mapping system allows you to predict or assess the effects of factors such as settlement, slope instability, frost heave, subsidence, temperature/pressure variations, upheaval and the impact of new construction. This system also allows you to:
  • Assess pipeline plan and profile
  • Determine pipeline bending and yielding
  • Perform high-accuracy 3-D pipeline out-of-straightness measurement
  • Measure radius of curvature
  • Perform fit for purpose analysis
  • Incorporate survey data into any GIS software platform
GEMINIView: Geometry
Inspection Software

Our GEMINIView software allows you to display and analyze caliper and inertial data collected by the GEOPIG tool. This software provides detailed graphical reporting and analysis of internal pipeline features. Upon completion of the data analysis, we provide you with the survey data along with our Microsoft Windowscompatible software. Data reports are fully customized to meet your unique needs. Our GEMINIView software can provide :
  • Pipeline movement and strain information.
  • Accurate characterization of features such as dents, ovality, wrinkles, buckles.
  • Anomaly and feature co-ordinates in U.T.M. for precise field location using GPS.
  • Three-dimensional virtual view of the pipeline, including feature location and characteristics.
  • Pipeline plan and profile mapping with associated curvature strains and bend information
