GEMINI Combination MFL and Caliper Tool


In creating the GEMINI™ combination MFL and caliper tool, BJ has taken the best of both worlds by combining our high-resolution VECTRA MFL and GEOPIG caliper tool technologies in one tool. The ability to gather multiple data sets in one tool run is of paramount importance to many pipeline operators. The GEMINI tool delivers:

• Tri-axial Hall effect sensors for accurate metal loss detection and characterization.
• High-density mechanical caliper arms for precise measurement of pipe wall deformation.
• Gas bypass with active speed control for optimal tool run speed in large diameter, high velocity, high pressure gas pipelines (NPS 24+).
• Onboard inertial measurement unit for accurate location information, as well as bending strain data.

BJ’s tri-axial sensor and caliper arm technologies allow for precise characterization of mechanical damage such as corrosion in a dent, gouging in a dent and circumferentially-oriented fatigue cracking in a dent. The GEOPIG caliper arm technology also allows BJ to accurately report strain in a dent.
