Technological Innovations
At BJ Pipeline Inspection, intelligent pigging is a tradition of industry leadership and innovation. We are known as an industry leader when it comes to technological innovation, and we have a solid history of bringing technological firsts to the marketplace, providing you with significant benefits.

Inertial Mapping

BJ was the first company to fully integrate an inertial navigation system into its in-line inspection tools. Since that time, we have performed tens of thousands of kilometers of high accuracy surveys. From subsidence monitoring in the extremes of Alaska, to out-of-straightness measurement in the depths of the North Sea, to pipeline mapping in the heat of Thailand, our inertial mapping system has consistently proven its accuracy to our clients. This accuracy can significantly reduce the cost of your dig program.

Gas Bypass With Active Speed Control

In 1996, BJ introduced VECTRA, the first in-line inspection tool to offer gas bypass with active speed control, allowing for uninterrupted gas throughput during a survey. These features provide unparalleled accuracy in defect characterization since the tool maintains a steady speed during the survey. In addition, since the pipeline maintains full gas throughput during a VECTRA survey, you do not incur the expense of reduced throughput.

Tri-Axial Sensor Technology

BJ was the first company to successfully develop and implement a tri-axial (Circumferential, Axial and Radial) sensor head configuration. The addition of the circumferential axis sensor results in significantly improved defect detection and characterization. This configuration enables the detection of axially oriented long, narrow corrosion. Other MFL tools that have only radial and/or axial sensors must be modified and run a second time through a pipeline to accomplish what the VECTRA can achieve in a single pass.

Virtual Pipeline

BJ is the first company to provide you with a three-dimensional virtual computer view of the entire pipeline. You can navigate along the virtual pipeline and locate individual defects and features. A unique topography view allows you to assess individual defects and features on the pipe wall. This functionality is invaluable for identification and location of pipeline features as it allows you to see not only where the features are located, but what they look like.

Neural Networks

BJ developed and continues to refine the latest in data interpretation techniques to accurately categorize and size metal loss defects in pipelines. The use of neural networks assists data analysts in interpreting complex MFL signals. These neural networks ultimately provide you with superior defect characterization accuracy.

Ongoing Research

As we strive to bring inspection innovations to the marketplace, we remain at the forefront of ongoing research into new tools and technologies.

Stress Corrosion Cracking

BJ continues its research into the development of a state-of-the-art inspection tool that will accurately detect and size Stress Corrosion Cracking.
