Part of the Arkoma basin, the Fayetteville shale is a natural gas field located in Arkansas.  It is approximately 60 to 575 feet thick and the depths range from 1,450 to 6,700 feet. 

Production of its natural gas increased dramatically between 2005 and 2012, but has slowed in recent years.  According to the US Energy Information Administration, the shale play has 13,240 billion cubic feet of unproved, technically recoverable gas
