A Cationic Friction Reducer Fully Compatible with Produced Water

Description: The high intensity of hydraulic fracturing in unconventional reservoir has resulted in dramatic increase in water consumption. The reuse of produced water has been driven by both the environmental and economic benefits. The performance of conventional anionic friction reducers is usually affected by the total dissolved solid (TDS) in the water source. We present here a cationic friction reducer which is fully compatible with most of produced water based on results from the lab and field.

Unconventional Advanced High Performance Micromaterial for Enhancing Drilling Mud Cleaning Performance of Spacer Fluids in Horizontal Wells: From Laboratory Development to Field Applications

Description: This paper presents a full-scale laboratory development to a successful field application of an unconventional spacer with a novel micromaterial that enhances mud removal and provides exceptional fluid stability (flat viscosity), important for long horizontals. Due to its differentiating chemistry combined with uniquely engineered physical properties (minimally abrasive yet non-damaging to equipment), the new micromaterial allows more efficient scouring of strongly adhered mud from casing/formation surfaces, which many traditional spacers have difficulty removing efficiently.

New Advanced High-Performance Ultrafine Micromaterials for Providing Superior Properties to Cement Slurry and Set Cement in Horizontal Wells

Description: Wellbore cementing is critical for zonal isolation, bonding and supporting the casing downhole. In this paper, a novel high-performance micromaterial is presented for significantly improving the quality of the cement slurry and set cement tested in different API cements for horizontal wells. Its performance is compared to conventional Pozzolanic materials currently used in increasing cement properties.

Description: Fracture geometry control and increased fracture complexity have been recognized to be critical factors in optimizing unconventional well completion design. A major challenge of far-field diversion in slickwater fracturing is ensuring transport of material to the fracture tip or secondary fracture in a low-viscosity fluid. This paper will present an innovative far-field diverter system for fracturing with low-viscosity fluids composed of an engineered mixture of unique ultra-lightweight proppant and degradable material.

Gelled Isolation Fluid Makes Refracturing Well Feasible

Description:  A gelled fluid offers the benefits of being both temporary and easily cleaned up after the treatment. The objective in this application was to use a low cost gelled fluid to fully isolate existing perforations along a lateral to stimulate new zones. The novelty of this work included the application of using a gelled fluid in conjunction with a sliding sleeve system.
